Christmas 2023 Newsletter
I would like to introduce you to one of the women that attends our Love Them To Life Zoom meeting on Monday nights. Delores is a delight to all of us in the group. She helps make newcomers feel very welcome and comfortable. She adds to the discussion each week and has a wonderful laugh that never fails to brighten my day. Her life has not been easy but she shows the love of God to all who come in contact with her. Here is her story:
"My name is Delores Borges. I have two children, a daughter and a son. My son has been an alcoholic for at least 25 years. He is now 47 and has two sons. I became a single mom when he was 7 years old; his dad was also an alcoholic and a drug addict. Alcoholism was a way of life for my family, as my father, brothers, and husband were all alcoholics. I began to isolate myself from my son, mostly because of his aggression and his verbal abuse as a result of his drinking. Being around him was very painful, as I felt like I failed him as a single mom.
I visited America's Keswick for several years and received their brochures on upcoming events. I saw that there was a support group for women who had loved ones in addiction called Love Them To Life. I immediately called and talked with Cherri Freeman. She explained that it was very confidential and safe to speak openly in the group. I've been attending the meetings every Monday night for the last two years. I have found support, compassion, and growth in my dealings with my son.
I have learned to see my son as someone who needs help, and I have also learned to understand his addiction. But most of all, I've learned to be patient and to understand what it means to 'love him to life.'"
